Our goal?
To create a sanctuary for the living, a place to connect with nature in the heart of a nature reserve and animal sanctuary on a wild stretch of land along the Portuguese Silver Coast: a unique place for immersion and sharing.
For each stay at Almaterra, 15% of proceeds go directly to the animal sanctuary.

ANIMAL SHELTER
The essence of this lively place is the animal sanctuary. In this wonderful place in the heart of nature, you'll have the opportunity to live close to the animals, feel their energy and experience magical moments in their presence.

Protecting and raising awareness of the natural world is one of our core values. This wild land is the perfect place to awaken your senses, reconnect and get back to basics. Enjoy a nap in a hammock and other simple, magical moments.

WHO WE ARE
We are Andy & Ana. In 2017 we decided to leave our lives as dancer-corporate manager and communications officer to explore the world in search of more meaning and other ways of living.
In 2019, we launched various projects, including one that had been close to our hearts for a long time: creating an animal shelter.
It was by saving two horses from the slaughterhouse through fundraising that the shelter was born and opened its doors to other adoptions of horses in distress.
Today, we have fulfilled our dream of offering them a haven of peace in Portugal; a place where we humans can encounter the wisdom of the other kingdoms - animal, plant and mineral.

Our wish is to create a place of transmission and connection with nature and animals through workshops and activities dedicated to both children and adults.
PROTECTING & PRESERVING
Our land is classified as a "National Agricultural Reserve". We wish to preserve this precious heritage in all its splendor whilst welcoming the animals of the refuge.
QUALITY & COMFORT
Comfort, ecology and respect for nature are completely compatible. Our accommodations will be equipped with all the necessary comfort while respecting the surrounding nature.
